Breastfeeding Basics

Breastfeeding Basics

Months ago my mentor and I started offering Breastfeeding Basics Classes to local expecting familes. These classes have been held as part of a childbirth education series for a local midwifery practice in their Vermont and New Hampshire locations as well as stand alone classes at a local chiropractor office in downtown Keene, New Hampshire. I also offer this class in a private setting in person or virtually for convince.

What does this class cover?

  • Why breastfeeding is important?

  • Are you on the right tract for a successful breastfeeding journey?

  • Breast anatomy/ How your body makes milk

  • The importance of Skin-to-skin

  • The first latch

  • Breastfeeding positions

  • Newborn feeding cues

  • Common breastfeeding challenges

  • Is my baby getting enough?

  • Urine/Stool Elimination

  • The use of formula/artificial nipples

  • Pumping/Flange fitting

  • Self care - Your nutrition/intake

Who is this class for?

This class is ideally for anyone looking for more information with breastfeeding.

It can be for someone who is:

Currently expecting - Recently gave birth - A spouse/partner looking to better assist their spouse/partner - A first time parent - A parent to many children trying to give breastfeeding a better try this time around.

There is no specific demographic to whom can attend this class.

How often do you hold these classes?

I can hold these classes as often as needed.

At this time the classes in correlation with the local midwifery practice are offered quarterly with their childbirth education series. The classes offered at the local chiropractic office have been offered monthly. Private in person/virtual classes are held on a need bases.

What class location would be best for me to join?

This question depends on your specific needs.

  • If you are a client that is using the local midwifery group and chose to attend their childbirth education classes - great, join at one of the quarterly classes.

  • If you are local to the Keene area and would like to join in on a class that has been offered montly at a local chiropractic office - awesome, plus you could schedule yourself for an adjustment.

  • If you are looking for a class more tailored to your specific needs in person or virtually I would recommend booking a private session.

How long are the classes?

The Breastfeeding Basics Class is scheduled to run about 2hours. In this time we cover all topics listed above, have a short stretch break in the middle and leave time at the end for questions.

What do we get out of the class?

This class is jam packed full of information that will better help the success of your breastfeeding journey. Not only are you taking home the knowledge taught at the class we give handouts at the end and offer our personal email support with follow up questions if need be.

Will you be offering additional breastfeeding related classes?

Yes, at this time I am working on offering a class specifically for those who will be exclusively pumping - This class will cover the fundamentals of breast pumps, how they work, ideal milk output expectation, proper storage conditions, what to do if….

I will make a separate post to notify those when this class is ready for booking.

If you have any questions to where and when the next upcoming classes are being held or how to book a private class please go to the CONTACT tab and fill out your information. I would love to chat with you in regards to your breastfeeding needs.
