Supporting Mothers of Multiples on Their Breastfeeding Journey

Breastfeeding is an incredible journey, but for mothers of twins and multiples, it often comes with a unique set of challenges. As a twin mom and an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), I understand firsthand the joys, struggles, and triumphs that come with feeding more than one baby. My goal is to provide the support, encouragement, and practical tools parents need to navigate this journey with confidence.

The Challenges of Breastfeeding Multiples

Mothers of multiples often face hurdles such as:

  • Establishing and maintaining a sufficient milk supply

  • Learning tandem feeding positions for efficiency and comfort

  • Managing different feeding needs for each baby

  • Dealing with prematurity or NICU stays, which are common with multiples

  • Finding the right balance between pumping, bottle feeding, and nursing

These challenges can sometimes feel overwhelming, but with the right strategies and support, breastfeeding multiples is absolutely possible and rewarding.

How I Support Moms of Multiples

  •  Prenatal Breastfeeding Education – Preparing for success before babies arrive is key! I help parents learn what to expect and how to set up a solid foundation for breastfeeding twins or more.

  • Personalized Lactation Consultations – Whether in-home or virtual, I provide customized guidance for latching, positioning, supply concerns, and more.

  • Tandem Feeding Techniques – Mastering the art of feeding two babies at once takes practice. I help moms find the right techniques and positions to make feeding easier and more comfortable.

  • Pumping & Supplementation Plans – Whether supplementing by choice or necessity, I guide parents in creating a plan that meets their babies' needs while maintaining their breastfeeding goals.

  • Twin & Multiples Mom Support Groups – Community is everything! Connecting with other parents of multiples provides encouragement, shared experiences, and a sense of solidarity.

Encouragement for Multiples Moms

To all the twin and multiples moms out there—you are amazing! Your journey may look different from moms nursing a single baby, but your hard work and dedication are just as valuable. Whether you exclusively breastfeed, pump, supplement, or do a combination of all three, what matters most is that your babies are fed, loved, and thriving.

If you need support along the way, I’m here to help! Reach out for a consultation, join a support group, or simply know that you are not alone. Together, we can make this journey a little easier and a lot more empowering.
